Then again, old age poverty could claim us all. "Daily Telegraph" asks its readers: how will you fund your retirement? One answer: My wife and I worked all our lives, paying our taxes and national insurance contributions in the belief that it would help provide for us in old age. My wife retired in 1998, and I in 2003. Since then we have suffered the indignity of financial hardship. We considered moving away, possibly to Spain, where property prices are so much lower than here and where our quality of life may be better, but the move itself proved beyond our meagre budget. As a result I have been forced into returning to work as a "mule" for the Villa Lobos cartel in Baja California. It turns out US customs officials tend not to suspect British men in their early 70s of being involved in cocaine trafficking. What began at first as a handy way of making a little bit of cash in hand has since spiralled out of control, and I now find myself embroiled in a bloody power struggle within the cartel. My wife and I are seriously considering entering a witness protection programme. I wonder what Mr Brown has to say about all this?  | ||

Just perusing these threads. 'Fall of Western Civilisation' - five comments, mostly about cream cheese and holidays and drugs. Sort of peters out. So here is a joke borrowed from The Independent: "The Scots invented hypnosis, chloroform and the hypodermic syringe. Wouldn't it just be easier to *talk* to a woman?" | ||
