It's come to my attention that John McCain's website is not moderating the comments being posted to it. Check it out before they get hip to this and delete them. I especially like the one about his dimpled balls:

Nope. I have a new favorite now. Lazy MF from Texas wrote in his review of the father's day golf kit that the "Bag is handy. Will hold 2 Vietnamese skulls."

This is as entertaining as politics gets.

It looks like McCain himself has reviewed the McCain water bottle:

"The water bottle is good. It holds the water without leaking. However, you have to be able to lift your arms up over your head to squirt it into your mouth and I can't do that because of a war wound I have."

Old people shouldn't have websites. Especially if they want to be the President.

Dave, don't even the Republicans think he's past it? Most 72 year-olds I know are ready for the quiet life, not 24/7 demands of sub-prime crisis management or trying to find Tehran on the map. From his pictures McCain looks as if he should be out on the sun deck, and balls or no balls (the moderator's woken up, by the way), his skin appears ready-dipped in formaldehyde.

But, hey - I don't have a vote, and we have more than enough troubles of our own over here to think about.

He's beyond past it, Martin. Has the British media reported what he said on the Today Show this morning? He was asked if he could provide an estimate as to when troops would begin leaving Iraq. His response:

"No, but that's not too important. What's important is the casualties in Iraq."

I kid you not, man. He is the clumsiest old fuddy duddy. He continues to think that comparing Iraq to Korea, Japan, or Germany is legitimate despite the fact that, well, it just isn't.

More and more, I wonder if McCain isn't just a pump fake. There is *no way* the Rethuglicans are really going to run him. No. Way. I bet that, before August, they pull the plug on him and find somebody who can compete with Obama's eloquence. McCain's cancer will come back and Mitt will step up to take his place. Something like that...

Rumor is the McCain is likely to pick Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. Apparently he knows a thing or two about combating demons:

Wherever he is, Lenny Bruce is laughing his socks off. This is "Religions, Inc." all over again - "Heah, bhoy - haff a *snake* - "

Guy who resembles the recently dead, plus a time traveller up here from the Middle Ages? Dream ticket, dude. Dream ticket ...

Ha! Do you see that?

"Indead" might be my best typo ever.

I meant indeed of course, but all this talk of exorcism and demons has my fingers confused.

You were scared by "Cloverfield " -

You hid behind the couch when "Lon" Dick Cheney became the monster with a human face in "Desert Storm" -

- Now, thrill to "Pres Indead of Zombie Nation" - When there's no more room in swing states,a million corpse Republicans arise to do the bidding of Voodoo Master BJ. Not for anyone over the mental age of 6 - nor for the easily bored.

But seriously, folks -

There is a part of me that reads stuff like that and just despairs. I think "we really are just fucked".

But you know...it's only about 2-5% of the population that is this morally bankrupt and this powermad. We may well be past the point of constitutional means of addressing our social ills, but maybe that's not the end of the world. Much like shit, revolution happens.

I was just reading more about the number of seats that the GOP is losing in the senate and house. This kind of caused me to think about what I wrote yesterday - that the Rethuglicans would not really be running McCain. I still think it's a really strong possibility. But, when you look beyond what a shitty candidate he is, and take in the broader state of the party, you have to wonder how much longer this can go on. This might be what a political party's death rattle looks like. Can the GOP recover from Bush or, more to the point, the Rovian strategies he used for so long?

Or even recover from political ads like this one:

I can't watch the ad here at work, but the description of it sounds pretty nice.

Meanwhile, McCain and his buddy Bush are looking into offshore oil drilling here in the states:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/2008/06/bush_loo ks_offshore_for_remedy.php

That ain't gonna go well. Lot's of dumb 'Mericans who just want cheap gas will be pretty supportive I imagine.

And just yesterday McCain ran ads about being the pro-environment candidate. What a crock, man.
