I´ve reading this book again and I hava some thougth about it. Twain began the book the same year that the Berlin Conference divided up Africa among colonial powers. The book is full of talk of getting hold of a new country. And some years later there was a battle in Sudan that echoes the nigthmare ending: a medieval army charging machineguns with thounsands of casualties.
I am wondering if the book is really about the present colonising the past.
