'Fraid I haven't been in and about these environs much lately. Partly, holiday and the like. (Avignon. Very nice, thank you.) But partly through being absorbed and assimilated by Facebook and (you can feel this coming can't you?) I'm contemplating moving Empty Space/KRMB to Facebook.

Okay, okay I know it'll allow the media barons to access personal details on our every move but this old Discus forum is rather patched, tatty and outdated, and it'd resolve spam issues and maybe even introduce a few new people to the forum.

Thoughts?

I'm afraid that would be the last you see of me - I refuse to join Facebook!

I can see the reasoning, Zali - and new voices are always a treat.

But I'm with Alex here. For me, FB is too much personal info online in too public a space. Is there are any option of some less naked update?

I'll look into it. I know it's the equivalent of turning a comfortable old drinker into a Wetherspoons, but it's really a matter of trying to improve accessibility. I'd like to get the sort of discussion on KRMB/ES into a more inclusive forum. Not being a programmer myself I'm not sure if there's anyway that a feed between the Discus forum and a Facebook group could be established, or some other option that could include both.

Oh, and on the subject of pubs, you weren't in Stockport the other night were you Zali? I nearly said hello on the offchance.
Which reminds me - on the subject of lookalikes in pubs, I met a bloke in my local last week who looked exactly like a wrecked, dissolute and rather ill version of Keith Floyd. Thing is, it *was* Keith Floyd. But it shouldn't have been, couldn't have been, not in that particular boozer. But it was him. God knows why.

Well, at least you can still smoke in here.
Speaking of pubs, I saw your lookalike in my local the other night Zali. Nearly went to say hi on the offchance, but then I saw his shoes.
And speaking of lookalikes in pubs, I met a bloke last week in my local who looked like a wrecked, dissolute, old and rather ill Keith Floyd. Trouble is, it *was* Keith Floyd. But he shouldn't have been there! Not in Stockport, not in *that* pub. The shame of it.

Ha! That was nearly a duplicate, but the second one was funnier! Thought that first one hadn't posted.
Well, there's a useful insight into the mind of a writer.. er.. *cough*

As far as I know I haven't been in Stockport lately, unless I was astrally projecting again. When I do that I normally end up looking like a wrecked, dissolute, old and rather ill Keith Floyd.

Hey guys, long time, no post.

Despite my recent lack of posting, I think I'd have to agree with Alex that a switch to Facebook would be pretty unappealing. For whatever that's worth...

One thing we could look to do as an alternative:

We could begin a cooperatively run blog of some sort...it might be fun. Each of us could post topics and contribute to conversations etc.

Just a thought. I think it might get more traffic and attract some new voices though.

Interesting idea. I'm failing to write new stuff on my blog but I might be motivated to work on one with other people. What does everyone else reckon?

We could try: how would it work in practice? We'd each get a given time-slot to post each week/month, but could reply any time ..?

I think one way to work it would be to figure out who is going to run the blog and then give them what would amount to administrative privileges/access. Anybody could post an entry whenever they wanted in that case. I imagine that, over time, we'd all develop our unique areas of interest while maintaining the core sorts of things we already discuss.

We could put links in our individual facebook profiles and myspace profiles to get that boost in traffic.

I think it might be really cool and fun.

How many of us are there here? That would be interested in admin and blog running vs. posting conversationally?

Hi all!

*waves*

Hmm, would that be more like the old Empty Space? That is, one long thread? Tho' come to think of it, each of the threads would then be a sub thread...

Could do it on wordpress - I've got my blog there, and they seem to work very well. And we could get some nifty tracking software to check out lurkers!

Hi all

I think this is still ok as a forum. I haven't been here for a while as I was trying to move house. I didn't move in the end, even though the poor hapless buyers of this flat are still sticking around. They posted a letter through the door the other day: "Are you *sure* you don't want to sell?" Woops a daisy. But I always found it very useful apart from anything else - I mean this forum. Such as with the io stuff on Moorcock and MJH. I suppose it could be weeded or if that is controversial, archived but still available online by password. I am shy of Facebook. I might feel I was CONFORMING or something if I went to facebook. I don't know anything about facebook. What are its attractions? Words is all I need, mostly.
