Poor Carol Ann Duffy. One minute, a respected writer; the next, a nude walk-on part in what seems to be the section from "The Atrocity Exhibition" dealing with loop quantum gravity theory.

Actually, I got as far as "melt launch Sumption," and had to have a lie-down ...

Well, since you ask: Humphrey Milford worked in London as Oxford's publisher, 1913-45.

More details in the "Oxford Dictionary of National Biography." The entry was written by someone with my name.

Funny old world, isn't it..?

Damn, that reference was supposed to be untraceable, arbitrary, anonymous. It has ruined the meaninglessness of my meaningless poem. You see, it's a sign, a signal from that strange plasticity of dis-chronological time which we might as well identify as the entity of hypostatic telepathic reach from god knows how far away but that is sort of god to start with sending me the clear message that I can't get away with cheap tricks.

What´s with the ehem spanish girls? That makes me wonder if there are girls out there looking for exotic spanish boys. I am afraind that spanish boys and girls don´t consider the other group exotic.
Anyhow "How to see a ghost" is a good title for a short story.
"Everything ís everywhere" is a brilliant title for some dense atmospheric music.
For some reason I am disapointed that among all that nudity nobody looks por the bride stripped bare any more.

and I can´t help but wonder... How on earth looking on a photo of a nude girl are they going to know if she is truly islamic? Are there in the web any fake site when they advertise as islamic nude girls and they are ...I dont´know... jewish or catholics or even budhist?

Arturo, the Spanish girls (and most of the other dodgy lines in that poem) come through this page:
http://www.sumption.org/2007/04/10/naked-slave-gir ls-in-chains/
(Don't worry, it *is* safe for work).

>Are there in the web ..?

"Burka Babes International," I suppose - or some such. Needless to say, the people most concerned to view such stuff are the very people forbidden from looking at it.

To paraphrase the old Bette Midler joke, though - who cares about religion at a time like that?

Hi, Dan.
Safe for work and quite well written.
Over the years the allure of exoticism has become quite funny for me. It began when in my early twenties, I meet a guy from England, neithes of us a ladysman, who said he was envious of my all-the-year around tan, dark eyes and black hair. Apparently it was what brit girls liked. I informed that spanish girls prefered natural blonde guys with blue eyes ( and utter rarity in Spain in that begone age when coloured contacts where mostly props in movies and certenly beyond most teenagers means) we had a laugh over that( and over a beer). Desire is a funny thing and we fancy what we can´t get
On the other hand, in a friend blog we had a discussión on Peta nude demonstrations and pretty much the same thing happened as terms as "public nudity" were bandied about quite a bit.
Hi, Martin,
"Burka babes international". Brilliant. I picture it as an arabic spice girls combo doing coordinated shakira-like hip dances. I´d buy the record...

Public nudity: within a day of the Spencer Tunick mass-nudity piece in New(d)castle, there were videos of the event (taken direct from Police-controlled CCTV) being offered for sale in local pubs as sex videos. People are strange.

It is just me or is Spencer Tunick , like Christos, making the same piece again and again?
and anyhow I am utterly unable to see the artistic merit on them unless you count the tabbo against casual public nudity wich is still in place in the western world and going stronger. Viz. the bizarre new laws in Poland against topless bathing.

Hmm - I grew up in part in Haggard Road, just round the corner from Sherland Road. Small world... major odd memory, one night all the men in the street sleepwalked downstairs and slept on the sofa. Very clear memories of my mum talking about it...

Wow, small world - Haggard Road shares a similar memory-space, that area of the brain reserved for "pre-five-year-old" stuff. I have lots of very clear memories from that time of things which I've subsequently been told never happened (for example: all of my family, except my sister, came down with a cough so bad that none of us was able to speak in complete sentences for a week).

Spencer Tunick: there's something about his work which always surprises me and interests me more than I would expect a huge crowd of naked people to surprise and interest me, but I think it is largely to do with the taboo, or more specifically the fact that, because of the taboo, this is something which we quite simply never see.

Yup, it's all a bit hazy. Spent a lot of time hanging around on a mini Chopper bike, playing Marble Hill Park, etc. When were you there? We would have been late 70s.

Pah, I was never allowed a chopper :-(

I did used to spend a lot of time in Marble Hill though, and in "The Lady Park" (York House Gardens, with the fountain made of naked ladies and horses).

I was there 1969 until early 1975, then I moved to Teddington.

After moving to Teddington, The Lady Park and surrounding area was almost forgotten until almost 15 years later, when I started drinking in Twickenham, and going to the park late at night to get stoned and climb on the statues.
