You somehow understand that it’s not really that cool, but yet Our Price Records is probably the coolest place that you’ve been to in your eighteen years of life. Young people at least as cool as second year English Lit students saunter around the aisles. Suddenly you recognise Bae’s characteristic mode of movement in its natural environment.

”Hi Deborah,” Bae addresses the counter staff on first name terms. “You got the Cocteaus in for me yet?”

”Sure Bae,” Deborah answer in a low voice, eyeing you up uncertainly. “It’s good, but I’m not sure it’s up there with Treasure. Could be a grower though.”

”I’d listen to anything with Liz Frazer on it,” says Bae.

”You got that right,” Deborah answers in an even lower voice, accepting a tenner from Bae.

Bae wanders slowly around the shop looking at this and that. She stops under a Queen poster. “So what do you listen to,” she asks, sphinx-like, “mostly, that is?”
