You find yourself at the entrance to the college library where Eloise is about to start a tour. She raises a single pampas grass as her rod of guidance.

“Good afternoon and welcome to your introductory tour of the college library. The library is organised on the basis of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system, invented by Melvil Dewey in 1876.

”There are card indexes at the end of each of the four book wings, as well as a stack of book reservation forms, and a small set of dictionaries.

”In this entrance area, you will find not only the library desk, where you can borrow and return books, but also the journals collection, containing academic and technical periodicals that we take in this library. They are organised alphabetically by title and thereafter in date order.

”Any questions?” Eloise waits.

”Very well, in that case we shall proceed into wing one to begin our tour!”

Eloise raises her pampas grass and invites you to follow. (goto 05)
